Nothing quite brings out the fear in me like being asked to bake for the school Christmas fair, it has to be said.
Don’t get me wrong, I love to bake and if I’m really lucky, I can persuade people to eat it but somehow, my baking never seems to compare to the Uber Mummy Brigade of the PTA. Somehow, my efforts always seem to look inferior no matter how hard I try. I hand in my tin on the morning of the fair and do the whole fake grin thing and say something along the lines of “They taste much better than they look, honestly..” Only to be faced by a sympathetic head tilt like I had handed them a tin of cold sick.
But this year, I committed the ultimate crime and handed in some shop bought mince pies and attempted to pass them off as my own. What?! I know, I know.. But in my defense, I have been poorly sick and dying all week with the worst cold ever and I had truly forgotten to bake anything and by the time that I realised that the fair was upon us, it was too late to bake anything. Well, maybe it wasn’t too late as I clearly had enough time to nip to Marks and Spencers but that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!
So, I took the pies out of their cases, squished a couple of them around the edges, sprinkled on some icing sugar and put them in a tin. They’ll never guess *cough*
The lovely people at Next have come up with some gorgeous Christmas illustrations for the Twelve Days of Christmas, aren’t they just lovely? Of course, I don’t need to tell you that Next are a whole shop of gorgeous loveliness at the end of your mouse as well as having the cutest cake stands! And I would love you to give me a helping hand this Christmas and click through from my blog when doing your shopping as they have offered me a little festive cheer should I pass people their way. The more clicks I send through - the more festive cheer will be sent my way *bats eyelashes* so feel free to click, click, CLICK!

I’m sure you’re not the only one to pass off shop bought as home-made lovely! Sounds like an awesome strategy to me

Love the fact you ‘bought then squishe’d, very clever and you’ve been ill so allowances need to be made. Even I approve and I’m the Honest Mum!
