Every year I swear I will be more organised for Christmas, but it never quite happens. My mother is one of those people who is all done and wrapped by some stupidly early time in August, just in time to put the sprouts on in time for Christmas lunch. Seriously, those babies are cooked for at least four months, it’s no wonder I can’t eat the things.
But do you know what, it isn’t just a case of me being disorganised, call me strange but I do actually like Christmas shopping in well, urm, December. I like the hustle and bustle in the shops. I like that the decorations are up and the cheesy music is on. I love waiting for the kids to be all tucked up so I can sneak all of the presents down and wrap them in front of some old Christmas special on tv whilst drinking mulled wine. It feels, well, Christmassy! And I love it!
But this year I seem to be even less organised than ever and Christmas just seems to be sneaking up on me. And fast! First we had the snow which meant that we were housebound, then we’ve all taken it in turns to have the lurgy – the latest victim being my darling Other Half who has come down with man flu *rolls eyes*, then there has been all of the school fayres/discos/parties etc, plus I still have some decorating bits to finish off with the new kitchen just being fitted, the children will be finishing school on Friday and now my little sing songy iPhone app is screaming at me that there are only 10 sleeps until Christmas! TEN sleeps! That is like, SOON!!
I still have presents to buy, I still have cards to write and send, I still have all my wrapping to do. Not that I’m panicking. Much. Honestly. Although if you do have a little Christmas elf going spare, then please send him my way – I really could do with the help!
Okay, so here’s the deal for those of you who don’t know already, the lovely people at Next have come up with some fab illustrations celebrating the Twelve Days of Christmas that I’m sharing on my blog.
