Dear Big Little Girl

Dear Big Little Girl,

Today is your birthday.

Six whole years ago you bounded into our lives with a labour story worthy of the best of soap operas. You were very nearly born in the car park. True story. And one that you will no doubt be reminded of forever more. That and the fact that you were born with a full head of thick black hair. More hair than your Daddy has ever dreamed of having that’s for sure.

It truly only feels like yesterday that we brought you home from hospital to meet your big brother and sister. They weren’t quite sure what to think of you at first but soon thought that you were The Best Baby Sister ever because you had bought them both a present. Lucky for you, they were that little bit too young to question when you had the chance to go to the toy shop having just been born and all.

You were such a content little thing and still are to this day. And you made my huge decision to give up work and stay at home full time such an easy one. A decision that I cherish every single day. I can hand on heart say that I have never been so happy and our family has never been as content.

You love life. And especially love your food. You love Mummy’s homemade lasagne. With good reason of course, it is probably The Best Lasagne Ever after all. But I love the way that you still call it ‘bizanya’. In fact, it’s so darned cute that I never plan on correcting you. You work your way through the fruit bowl quicker than a plague of locusts but never ever eat your crusts.

You’re more organised than the rest of us put together. Our little Mother Hen. Everything has its place and everything is in its place. A creature of habit with your own little quirky routines. Like getting out of bed to say ‘Good night, I love you’ just one last time. Every. Single. Night. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of that.

Six feels like such a big number. When I look at you, I can’t help but see that tiny baby with the sticky up hair. But you are growing into such a wonderfully kind hearted girl. My big little beautiful girl. And I honestly couldn’t be prouder of you.

Wishing you a very happy birthday my gorgeous girl.
