Barbie, The Princess and The Popstar up for review

This month sees the release of the new Barbie movie, The Princess & The Popstar. We were really lucky to be sent the brand new dolls to play with and also went along to the cinema for a special preview of the movie last Friday. So exciting! For me and the girls, it has to be said!

The movie is about Princess Tori who dreams of leaving her royal life for the life of her favourite popstar Keira. Likewise, Keira is tired of performing and the superstar lifestyle and dreams of becoming a real life princess (don’t we all Barbie, DON’T WE ALL!) The two find each other and magically trade places resulting in adventures galore! It really is a very sweet movie and we LOVED it! I’ve been doing the Barbie thing for far too many years than I care to remember now, having done it already with my teenage daughter, but I have to say that I am loving doing it all over again with my little ones now. The girls were particularly excited that the first official outing for their new Barbie dolls was a trip to the cinema!

We were sent both the Tori and Keira dolls and they are FABULOUS! They are a 2 in 1 doll, with Tori changing from princess to popstar; and Keira from popstar to princess. The sparkly gowns change and even their hair too. I was really impressed with how easy it is to switch from princess to popstar and vice versa. The gowns have special velcro tabs and literally with a pull of a string they are transformed. Their hair changes with similar ease too, by twisting the hair Tori goes from a blonde haired princess to a pink haired popstar and Keira from a purple haired popstar to a brunette princess. I love the detail of the crown for the princess hair and headband for the popstar and best of all, it is all attached to the doll so there are no accessories to misplace. Each of the dolls comes with a microphone and also sing two songs each with a press of their magical necklace (batteries are included too which is always a bonus!)

I think it goes without saying that these gorgeous Barbie dolls get a HUGE thumbs up from us! Getting to see a preview of the movie before the DVD is released later this month was such a treat and really made the dolls come to life for the girls. For me, I loved the message taken from the movie to always sing from your heart *wibble* and I may or may not have shed a teeny tiny tear when the two friends come together to save the day *cough* As for the Barbie dolls, I loved that they truly are a 2 in 1 doll and that little sausage fingers can transform them with ease. Oh, and I also love that they sing my favourite songs from the movie. I might even give them back to my little girls if they promise to let me play sometimes too…….

Each doll is sold separately and you will be able to get your mitts on them at all major retailers. For more information and even more Barbie fun, pop along to

Disclosure: I was very kindly sent these lovely dolls to keep and also complimentary cinema tickets from the lovely people over at Mattel for the purpose of this review. All opinions stated here are my own as is every one of the five hundred and eighty nine words. Oh, and the grinning loons are mine all mine and are not for sale I’m afraid.

Look at those gorgeous dolls-I miss not playing with barbies although am trying (so far not massively successfully) to get Oliver into Sylvanian Families!
