Barbie Fashion Design Maker Doll up for review

We are huge fans of Barbie I mean like HUGE so we were really excited to be sent the new Barbie Fashion Design Maker Doll to review here on the blog before it hits the shelves.

The chance to be able to design her very own outfits for Barbie is like a dream come true for my eight year old and I must admit that I had lots of fun helping her! Simply download the free app on to an iPad or computer and you’re ready to go. You can create designs with the prints and accessories included in the software (of which there are many!) or you can even upload your own photos for a truly personalised look. My daughter absolutely loved playing with the app and it was really straight forward to use. You can chop and change the designs over and over again it really is great fun just by itself.

Then when you are happy with your design they can be brought to life and printed directly from your home computer on to the printable fabric included. The fashions are then peeled off the fabric sheet and placed on to the Barbie doll. I was a bit unsure if the fabric would withstand the rough handling of little people but actually, even though it works in the same way as a sticker, it is in fact really strong and very much fabric not paper if that makes sense. You wouldn’t be able to tear it by accident that’s for sure. The set comes complete with eight printable sheets which really is plenty considering that the outfits can be reused over and over. You simply stick them back on to the sheet and there is even a special Design Maker portfolio to store them all in. Refill packs are available separately though should you need them.

Barbie herself has a smooth white body so the stickers are really easy to apply. If you so make a mistake, you can just unpeel and start over again though. There are also lots of extra accessories so you can embellish your designs including ruffles, trims and glitter stickers. Obviously when you are eight, more is most definitely more! Pink, pink, more pink, glitter, ruffles, white fluffy kittens.. Doesn’t she look fabulous?

Barbie Fashion Design Maker Doll gets a huge thumbs up from us she really is fabulous! I was seriously impressed with the number of design choices and also just how easy it is to use, from the app down to applying the fabric stickers. I love that you can mix and match your designs by reusing them so the fun really is limitless. Plus the portfolio means that you have somewhere to safely store the designs but it’s also a great way to display your creations.

Please note that Barbie Fashion Design Maker Doll will be available in a toy store near you soon. We were very lucky to get to have a play before anybody else can get their mitts on her! It will be recommended for ages 6+ and priced at Β£49.99 RRP.Β

Disclaimer: We were provided with the doll shown for the purpose of this review but all opinions here are of course my own. The design is all my daughter’s though. I didn’t get a look in. No surprise there.Β

I am debating buying one of these for each of my 3 girls (ages 4,7,9), which would be pricey or buying one and having them each share the fabric. Can they use other Barbie dolls or do the clothes only fit the doll that it comes with?

The clothes fit on to this Barbie doll as she has a special body. There’s no reason why they couldn’t each make their own designs and take it in turns in dressing the doll though? I know my two little girls enjoy that and actually like borrowing each others designs too!
