Bathroom makeover: Goodbye teal, hello dove grey

I had been wanting to give our family bathroom a bit of spruce up for a while now. The suite itself was fine, more than fine in fact, we were so lucky when we bought this house it had the most beautiful bathroom with a big roll top bath. Totally clinched the sale for me I’m not going to lie. There is no way that Mr Mostly would ever let me buy a suite like that, he thinks the bath is far too big for an average sized room and completely out of place in a new-ish build. Pah! So I will be forever grateful to the people who lived here before us for putting it in! Anyway when Homebase got in touch asking if they could help me with a project around the house, it felt like the perfect kick up the backside to give my bathroom a bit of a freshen up.

It’s a lovely bright bathroom with a large window and white suite so this means that we can be quite bold with colour in there. It was previously a teal colour which was nice but it was looking a little tired and it was time for a change. It was time to say goodbye to the teal and hello dove grey. I’m a bit of a dab hand with a roller and I did it within a day. Mr Mostly was seriously impressed, I think he was expecting to come home from work and have to get a paintbrush out not be met with a finished bathroom and dinner on the table! Ha!

I am so in love with the grey it is not true. Such a gorgeous colour and it makes the bathroom feel completely different. I think it looks especially good against the bright white suite and I went with white bathroom accessories too and let the walls talk for themselves. I’m not too keen on the cherry coloured wood floor in this room but actually the grey makes it look so warm that I might be convinced to keep it a little longer.

I replaced our old mirror with this new mirrored cabinet to give us a little more storage. We have a huge built in storage cupboard for the bathroom which means I can hide all of our clutter but with two teenagers in the house, you can never have enough storage trust me! They’ve already taken over this cabinet and have claimed a shelf each I didn’t get a look in!

I put up a plain white blind and shower curtain. We primarily use the bath in here but there is an overhead shower. Little touches for the windowsill include an extendable shaving mirror and these pretty new soap dispenser and tumbler. They go perfectly with my shell and starfish accessories which must be getting on for twenty years old – they were two of the very first things that we bought for our love nest all those years ago! And of course no bathroom spruce up is complete without a new bale of towels. Soft, fluffy, white towels. Ahhh!

It’s amazing what a difference a small budget (and day of hard work) has made in here. I am so in love with my new bathroom *happy sigh*
