When the lovely people over at Philips got in touch asking if I would like to try out the world’s most powerful iron, I must admit that it was the blogging equivalent of me winning the lottery! You see, I spend my entire life ironing. Well, maybe not my entire life but there are days when it certainly feels like it. Between the six of us, we create an awful lot of laundry and I have to iron every single day to keep on top of it all. Oh my glamorous life! But actually, I am one of those weirdos that actually enjoys ironing. Not only is it an excuse to watch tv while I do it but there is nothing quite as satisfying as seeing all those neatly folded piles of ironing when I am all done. Ahh!
Now Philips think that this new PerfectCare Elite iron is their best and most efficient steam generator iron yet but so that I could really really put it to the test, first of all they wanted to send me on a little shopping trip. This was no ordinary shopping trip though. Oh no. They wanted to treat me to a little something for my winter wardrobe but they wanted me to specifically choose something that I would normally leave behind on the rail because it looked too difficult to iron. You know, materials like silk and chiffon that look like they would melt if they were even in the same room as an iron. Basically the most awkward clothes I could find! So off I trotted so I could really put this iron to the test and hopefully banish some common ironing myths along the way.
I’ve only ever used a bog standard iron before so to go from that to the Philips PerfectCare Elite was quite a jump. But what a lovely jump it was! This super duper iron uses OptimalTEMP technology so you can iron everything from everyday jeans to your finest silk dress without setting the temperature. At first it felt so strange not to fiddle about with different settings for different fabrics but it is something that I quickly got used to. It makes ironing a breeze you just turn it on and go.
I tried to ‘trick’ it by purposely swapping from delicate materials to denim, heavily creased items to chiffon etc but there is no tricking this iron let me tell you it is clever stuff. In fact, it is so clever that I suspect it might be magic I love it! It even has a ‘safe rest’ feature which means that you can leave the hot iron soleplate directly on the garments or cotton ironing board cover. I can’t even begin to work out how it knows but it really really does. Like I said, clever clever stuff.
There are no burns guaranteed on all ironable garments and it has a 5 star rated soleplate that glides over your garments. It is without doubt the smoothest iron I have ever used. No burns, no catching on materials, no nothing. It is also the lightest iron that Philips make and this really does make ironing easier. It just feels so effortless. I couldn’t believe the amazing results I was seeing before my eyes but seemingly with so little effort from me.
It is tap water friendly and descales easily with a press of a button. I was also impressed with the huge 1.8 litre water capacity that it has too which means that you are not constantly refilling like I had to with my old bog standard iron. It has a safety auto-off feature after ten minutes and the iron can be locked on to the steam generator when needed so it can’t be knocked off accidentally or you can even use this when it needs to be carried.
Now, as you might have guessed, all of this technology does come at a grand price but actually, having used this iron for quite a few weeks now I would say that the PerfectCare Elite iron is worth every single penny of its £320 price tag. I have really put it through its paces and it is without doubt the fastest and most powerful iron that I have ever used. It’s a pretty snazzy looking thing too. I just can’t get over how clever the OptimalTEMP technology is though, it has completely revolutionised the way that I iron.
Is it wrong to love an iron? Because if it is, I don’t want to be right. I love it more than I possibly should love any household appliance but I make no apologies for that. Best. Iron. Ever. I LOVE IT!
Disclaimer: For the purpose of this review I was very kindly sent the PerfectCare Elite Steam Generator Iron from Philips along with a shopping voucher to help me really put the iron to the test and dispel some #ironingmyths but all opinions and now empty ironing baskets are my own
