I have been friends with the lovely Rachael Lucas for too many years to count and it has been so amazing to see her dreams of writing come true (and she really does write like a dream!) I have read and loved every single one of her books so I was ridiculously excited to get my mitts on a copy of her latest book Wildflower Bay.
If you have already read Rachael’s best-selling first book Sealed with a Kiss and the follow up novella Sealed with a Christmas Kiss, you might be excited to hear that this latest book, Wildflower Bay, sees us return to the beautiful remote Scottish island of Auchenmor. (You don’t need to have already read the earlier books, but I would definitely recommend that you do if you haven’t already because they really are brilliant!)
Anyway, in Wildflower Bay we meet Isla who has her dream job as a head stylist in the most exclusive salon in Edinburgh. The fact that she has been so single-minded in her career that she’s forgotten to have a life has completely passed her by – until disaster strikes. Out of options, she heads to the remote island of Auchenmor to help out her aunt who is in need of an extra pair of scissors at her salon. Meanwhile, a native to the island Finn is thirty five and reality has hit him hard. His best friends are about to have a baby and everything is changing. When into his life walks Isla…
For me, Wildflower Bay is a perfect summer read. It is set on this beautiful island that I fell in love with all over again and it was so nice to not only be back on Auchenmor but to see previous characters from Rachael’s first best-selling book pop up again too. The thing with Wildflower Bay (and in fact, every one of Rachael’s books) is that she creates the most amazing settings and has a way of making you feel like you are right there in the heart of the story. It is the kind of escapism that makes me want to curl up, shut out the world and read it all in one go. I was sucked in from the word go and I think that was down to the beautifully drawn characters. In particular we see the main character Isla grow throughout the book and I was particularly taken by the relationships (of the heart and otherwise) that she forms with the other people who live on the island. It really is an absolute gem of a book I absolutely loved it!
Wildflower Bay is available now on Kindle and in paperback from Amazon or you can find it in Asda, WHSmith or your local bookshop. You can visit Rachael’s website at rachaellucas.com or find her on Facebook as Rachael Lucas Writer.
