A deliciously British summer flavour is the newest member of the Bonne Maman family. A wonderful way to enjoy the finest seasonal rhubarb year round, new Rhubarb Conserve is available in Sainsbury’s and Co-op nationwide now. I was invited along to the launch party a few weeks ago but unfortunately couldn’t make it but the lovely people over at Bonne Maman sent me the most gorgeous goody bag so I didn’t miss out completely.
As with all Bonne Maman conserves, made of the finest ripe ingredients and some cane sugar, this delectable new conserve offers a perfect balance of sweetness and typical rhubarb ‘zing’ that rhubarb lovers like me will adore. The unique soft set texture of Bonne Maman conserves are perfect for spreading on toast or croissants, topping scones or adding to summer bakes. Now, I have to confess that we were on our third jar before I actually got round to actually baking anything and taking any photos. It is the kind of conserve that has you reaching for just one more slice of toast that accidentally turns into at least three. Seriously. It is that good.
Anyway, before this jar vanished I made some scones using a recipe from The Seasonal Cookbook from Bonne Maman. It’s a great little book by the way, it isn’t just sweet things there are lots of savoury recipes too. Scones seemed like the perfect base to eat as much of this rhubarb delight as humanly possible though. Ha!
Rhubarb is enjoying something of a kitchen renaissance, featuring on menus nationwide – in numerous dishes hot or cold and even summer drinks, beers, wine and cheese. As well as the new Rhubarb Conserve being a delectable topping for a slice of toast or scone, Bonne Maman’s Rhubarb Compote is also becoming an increasingly popular choice on granola or yoghurt. And I can heartily recommend both.
