Back to school with Stikins

The task of getting ready to go back to school can seem never ending (especially when you have as many children as I do) but if there is one job that I usually put off for the last minute then it is labelling everything. There is no getting out of it though, is there? When my eldest child started school, we were told to please label all of his uniform and I remember questioning if it was really necessary. Partly because it seemed like such a mammoth task but mostly because I thought he would never lose anything. How wet behind the ears was I? Let me tell you something, they lose everything. All. Of. The. Time. I remember my son once coming out of class with one shoe on in reception. One shoe. How can you lose a shoe? But he did. And I was glad I had labelled everything when the thing finally turned up!

But then of course you have to find the right kind of name labels to use and for me, that is where Stikins from LabelPlanet have come to the rescue. I’ve tried all kinds of different types over the years. The sew in ones were always so time consuming to use and always used to fall off in the wash. The iron in ones never quite stick properly for me no matter how hard I try. I’ve even resorted to writing their names in pen on the labels before now but again, they rarely survive a term of washing. I don’t know about your children but mine never get more than a day’s wear out of their uniform before it finds itself back in the laundry pile. Stikins though seem to tick all of my boxes and having put them to the test, will never use anything else again.

As the name suggests, they are stickers so they couldn’t be easier to use. They come on sheets and you carefully peel the label from the backing paper and ideally apply to the wash care label of the garment. You simply smooth it down with your thumb and hold it down for a few seconds to ensure that the adhesive fully bonds with the material and that’s it! Done! It took me minutes to label piles and piles of uniform I was so impressed.

Not only can Stikins be used for clothing but other items too such as shoes, pumps, bags, lunch boxes, water bottles, hats etc. It’s so easy that I have been labelling everything in sight! The stickers are made from a soft plastic type material so they are really strong. My children don’t go back to school for a couple of weeks yet so to put them to the test before writing this review, I actually attached some of the left over stickers we had on some labels of everyday items like face cloths and towels so I could see how they survived in the wash and I have to say that they haven’t budged or faded after countless 60° washes. I’m so pleased with them.

Stikins are available in four pack sizes; 30 labels, 60 labels, 90 labels, or 120 labels per pack with prices starting at just £6. Each label within a pack is printed with the same text and you can choose to have it over one line or two and they print exactly what you want. So you could add their class etc if you needed to as well as their name. Delivery is free in the UK and they are sent by first class post on the same day Monday to Friday so if you are a Last Minute Larry like me, you still have time to order from

I was so impressed with the set of name labels that I received to review that I have since bought more for my other daughter too. I don’t think there is anything left to label in our house I have stuck them on anything that stayed still long enough! Ha! I can’t recommend them enough though for both quality and service.

Years ago when I was being readied for boarding school my Mum spent hours sewing name labels. I don’t how how she did it. She would have loved these stikins!!
