Us. We hardly have any photos of just us. Mostly because it is usually one of us taking the photos. Or sometimes because we can’t have a photo taken without being photobombed by a child or three.
The thought struck me quite out of nowhere one evening in September that we hardly have any photos of the two of us. It had been a boiling hot day and I was cooking sausages while little people ran in and out of the French doors and the cats were crying to be fed. Mr Mostly had just come in from the office and I was doing that thinking out loud thing. I said that we really need to make an effort to have more photos taken of just the two of us. Nearly twenty-two years we have been together and there is barely any photographic evidence. Okay then he said.
So amid the chaos we grabbed a passing teen and said take a nice photo of us. And of course there is no such thing as a nice photo when a teen just wants to be fed, you can smell burning sausages and the cats have started eating each other. So I said just take a dozen and I’ll pick the best of a bad bunch. Snap, snap, snap. I put the phone down thinking never mind, we’ll get a good photo of us two one of these days and set about rescuing the poor sausages.
But after dinner, I looked through the camera roll of my phone and the teen had accidentally taken some of my most favourite photos of us ever. For whatever reason, I could see past the fact that my arms looked like sides of ham and my hair had a life of its own (it’s the humidity!) and all I could see was us. Silly happy us.
I don’t normally share the soppy stuff on social media, I prefer to save it for real life, you know? But that silly montage of us? That I had to share. And in fact, I loved it so much that I had it printed and framed with Lalalab. I love it. Absolutely love it. I have no idea where I am going to hang it yet but I just knew that I had to have it framed. I thought I would add it to our photo gallery on the stairs but actually when it arrived, I loved it so much that I think it deserves a space all of its own. I don’t want it to be hidden amongst a wall of other portraits.
I have a feeling that makes me sound terribly very vain?! But I promise that couldn’t be further from the truth! There is just something about those silly snaps that have captured us both in all our imperfect glory. And instead of pressing the delete button because my hair looked a mess or because Mr Mostly’s hand was doing something weird, I just couldn’t help but love it. The fact is that we are not a picture perfect kind of couple. But that’s okay. In fact, that’s more than okay. Here’s to more silly snaps of just the two us. Although next time maybe not in the middle of trying to cook dinner. The burnt sausages did not go down too well. Not even with the cats.
P.S. Quite a few people have asked me about this frame from Lalalab so I thought I would mention it here. I have ordered photobooks, Lalaboxes and hundreds (if not thousands) of prints using the Lalalab app before but this is the first time that I have ordered a framed photo and I was seriously impressed. I think it cost just shy of £30 which for me was money very well spent. The photo itself measures 20×20 then the frame is 30×30 so a really decent size and the mount makes it look like a much more expensive finish. If you would like to give the Lalalab app a try for yourself then I have a £5 discount code for you to use. Simply use code PGMCSC2G at the checkout to receive £5 credit to your account (this is a referral program so I will also receive £5 credit every time somebody uses my code)
