In 2017, Barbie celebrates Dads who play Barbie because they believe that time spent in her imaginary world is an investment in her real world. When the lovely people at Mattel got in touch about this new campaign, I have to confess that it made my heart sing. There is nothing quite as magic as that special father-daughter relationship.
We were sent a Barbie You Can Be Anything Box which was full of Barbie goodies to celebrate. The box included a range of the new Barbies for 2017 including empowering new careers, the diverse new body shape Fashionistas and the athlete dolls. I strongly believe that when a girl plays with Barbie, she imagines everything she can become. I absolutely love these new ranges and they were a massive hit with my girls who couldn’t wait to show Daddy!
The truth of the matter is that my girls will choose Daddy over Mummy every time when it comes to playing with Barbie. He is so much better at the voices than me for starters but I have a feeling that it might have something to do with the fact that he also makes a willing horse!
You see, what started out as a game of Barbie playing on the new skateboard she got for her birthday ended up with her crashing into her friend who was walking her dog, so along comes the doctor who decides Barbie needs surgery immediately but they have to get to hospital quick. Of course, they won’t all fit inside an ambulance so they decide they need to travel by horse instead and lucky for them, Daddy makes a willing horse who is big enough for all of them. Are you keeping up at the back there? Ha! Got to love a crazy imagination! And what I love more is watching them play out these crazy games with their dad. Seriously, I don’t know who enjoys these games most, them or him!
This new campaign is supported by global research finding that strong male advocates empower girls and that two thirds of UK dads believe that joining in their daughter’s playtime builds their self-confidence. I for one don’t doubt that for a second, I see it with my own eyes day in day out. There is a great new #DadsWhoPlayBarbie video here that shows six real dads and daughters playing Barbie and how time spent in her imaginary world is an investment in her real world. Do take a look it is absolutely adorable and what an amazing message!
