It is Mother’s Day this Sunday and research from Tesco has revealed that more than half a million time-strapped Brits will buy their Mother’s Day gift on the day itself. Knowing that the last minute dash can result in panic and predictable gifts, Tesco is encouraging customers to come in to store a day early with the launch of its gift Inspiration Stations which will open on Saturday across its network of stores.
The Inspiration Stations will help stressed sons and daughters hoping to find the perfect gift for their mums, and will be manned by experts who can make personal recommendations to shoppers, giving hope to those who need it, including the quarter of people who admit they have no idea what to buy their mums. When I think back to when I was little, I can just about remember making a card at school for my mum but obviously as a grown-up now, it is nice to be able to choose a lovely gift. And of course, two of my children are that bit older now with pennies of their own to spend so it is nice to be spoilt for a change. Saying that, I am sure that most mums would say that those homemade cards will always hold a special place in their heart!
As well as recommending gifts though, Tesco will be reminding shoppers to think about experiences that enable them to spend more time with their mums. Any time spent together is precious of course but what better way to use this chance to enjoy an experience together. Those memories can be priceless whether it is something as adventurous as flying lessons, a luxurious trip to a spa or even a lovely meal together.
People are expected to spend on average, four hours and 34 minutes with their mums on Mother’s Day, with lots of mums acting as host to their grown-up children and even cooking the Sunday meal. However, there are some who will miss out due to commitments and constraints with a quarter saying that their mums live too far away and one in ten say that they are too busy looking after their own children to take time out.
Tesco Head Florist Michelle Buck says “Whether people are able to spend time with their mums this weekend or are simply sending them a thoughtful gift, we know making those plans will be weighing on their minds, which is where our Inspiration Stations come in. Our experts will be on hand to help suggest the perfect gift and one of our beautiful bouquets is guaranteed to put a smile on your mums face.”
Tesco Inspiration Stations will feature in over 300 stores across Britain on Saturday 25th March from midday. In addition to beautiful bouquets, the experts will point people to indulgent chocolates, delicious drinks and luxurious breakfast in bed delicacies. They will also help to adorn gifts with special wrapping and gift tags that can be planted and will grow into flowers to keep reminding mums how much they are loved, long after the day itself.
Tesco customers can also use their accumulated Clubcard points to exchange vouchers for gift experiences for an alternative present this Mother’s Day – from vineyard tours to trips to the zoo. I’m hoping to pop along to an Inspiration Station this Saturday to take a look for myself but to give me an idea of the service that will be offered in store, the lovely people at Tesco plotted with Mr Mostly and my eldest daughter to come up with the perfect gift experience for me. They were asked to complete a short survey to give an idea of things that I like so that it could be tailored to me and I’m going to be treated to afternoon tea at Patisserie Valerie! How lovely is that? I honestly couldn’t think of a more perfect gift experience for me. I’ll be sure to share a photo (or three) over on Instagram when we go but I’m already dreaming of those cakes!
What are your plans this Mother’s Day? Will you be popping along to Tesco to make the most of the Inspiration Stations?
