Gourmet Meat Club up for review

Gourmet Meat Club believe that every meat lover should enjoy the very best and also think that life is too short to search out specialist markets or queueing in high street shops. So they do the hard work, sourcing grass fed free range cuts of beef, lamb, pork, chicken and other gastronomic goodies and deliver them fresh to your door every week, fortnight or month. I was asked to try out the club for myself to review here on my blog.

First of all you need to choose which box is best for you. There is the BBQ box, Butcher’s Favourite, Club Specials, Gourmet Steak, Lean and Clean, Winter Warmer and the Box of the Month. I decided that the Box of the Month was the best for me as I felt it had a really good variety of meat. My box contained home cured gammon steak, pork strips, chicken supremes, minced beef steak, lamb and mint burgers, Tuscan pork sausage, whole free range chicken and stuffed chicken parcels. The price of this box was £55. It arrived by courier to my door really well packed and in perfect condition.

The very first thing I noticed was that the meat was all beautifully fresh and dated for one whole week. I liked the flexibility that gave me to cook over the course of the week ahead. (The meat is suitable for home freezing should you need or want to though just like any other meat would be.) There was a gourmet cooking guide which gave instructions on how to cook a wide selection of the delicious meat cuts and there is also cooking information on their website too. So even if you are not a dab hand in the kitchen you can follow their cooking guides. But I think  the boxes would probably be better suited to those keener in the kitchen as it doesn’t give you set menu plans as such, what you do with the meat is down to you. Personally though I like the flexibility that gave me to cook whatever I wanted.

Gourmet Meat Club are an online artisan butcher and promise to provide you with the very best. The beef and lamb are grass fed while the chicken and pork are free range. The meat is all sustainable and traceable which means that you really can taste the quality with every mouthful. Even the most simple of dishes need to start with the very best ingredients and that is what I liked most about this box. The quality of the cuts of meat really was exceptional.

P.S. I hope it isn’t too early to mention the ‘C’ word but I noticed that they have just added a Christmas section too which will be available for delivery from Tuesday 19th to Friday 22nd December if you’d rather not do battle for your turkey (or goose, duck and gammon) this year and have it delivered straight to your door!
