A family meal out at Pizza Hut Restaurants

We were invited along to Pizza Hut Restaurants* in Birstall to try out the new menu. Our youngest two have both just had amazing school reports so it was perfect timing for us to go out to celebrate! Any excuse of course!

It was a busy weekend lunchtime when we went and the greeter showed us to our table and ran through the special offers with us before leaving us to take a look at the menus. I have to say that there was a real buzz in the restaurant when we arrived with lots of families like us and some bigger parties eating. The girls were given colouring sheets and a pot of crayons as well as their own kid’s menu. It really is very family friendly as you might expect.

Our server was really attentive and soon came back to take our drinks order but actually we were ready to order our meal. I particularly liked that she patiently asked the girls what they would like rather than taking their order from us. It is just a little thing I know but a nice touch all the same. They both ordered identical Little Heroes meals which didn’t surprise me one bit! Peas in a pod they are!

There are two great offers on the new menu right now for kids; there is the Little Heroes for £5.95 which is smaller meals for little heroes or the Bigger Heroes for £7.95 which is bigger meals for hungry heroes. The Little Heroes deal includes a drink, main, salad and dessert, where the Bigger Heroes includes all of that plus an additional side dish. They are aimed for children aged 12 and under and I think they are exceptionally good value and we found the portion sizes to be spot on.

The girls both chose a thin and crispy margherita pizza for their main but there was also a choice of spaghetti bolognese, cheesy pasta shapes, breaded chicken and fries, chicken wraps, tuna wraps, lasagne or mac ‘n’ cheese. So there really was lots of choice. We couldn’t come to Pizza Hut without trying the pizza though so I think they made a fine choice!

While we waited for our food to arrive, we were able to help ourselves to bottomless drinks (cherry Diet Pepsi for me – yum!) and hit the legendary salad bar. The girls loved helping themselves and filled their bowls to the brim with all sorts of goodies. There were lots of salad bits – lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, beetroot etc and also delicious looking couscous, pasta, coleslaw, croutons etc with a range of dressings and oils to choose from too. The girls nibbled at their salad back at the table but our order arrived really quickly so we were able to tuck straight in.

We ordered some chicken wings and BBQ ribs from the starter menu for us all to share but we asked that they came as a side with the rest of our food and our server was more than happy to accommodate this. Mr Mostly went for the Texas Meat Meltdown pizza which looked amazing. It had spicy pork, chicken breast, pepperoni, chorizo and a BBQ sauce base. I was hoping that he might struggle to finish it and I would get a slice but no, not a chance haha! I chose the BBQ Steak flatbread pizza which is from the lighter range on the new menu but fewer calories certainly didn’t mean less taste it was so good. It came with shaved steak, onion and mixed peppers topped with rocket. The flatbread base was super thin and crispy which is just how I like it so it was the perfect choice for me.

Mr Mostly and I were too stuffed to manage a dessert – such lightweights! But despite clean plates all round for the girls they still had a tiny bit of room for ice-cream! I mean let’s face it, no trip to Pizza Hut is complete without a visit to the ice cream factory is it? They quickly set to work filling their bowls with the soft vanilla ice cream from the machine themselves and loaded it with just about every sauce and sprinkle there was. Well, this was a treat after all!

All of the food we ordered was absolutely delicious and there was lots of choice including an unlimited buffet deal. The staff in the restaurant were super duper friendly and amazingly attentive considering it was a very busy Sunday lunchtime when we visited. (I should add as well that the staff didn’t know that I was there to review the menu, we were just ‘normal’ customers so it wasn’t that we were given special attention, they were just great at their job!) Our meal came to just less than £50 for the four of us which I thought was really good value. The kids had such a lovely time and it felt like such a nice way to round off our weekend as well as being a special treat for their brilliant school reports.

It has been a while since we last visited Pizza Hut Restaurants as a family but we all enjoyed our meal so much that we will definitely be back before too long! Thank you so much for inviting us along!
