Nonsuch Shrubs up for review

Nonsuch Shrubs drinking vinegars up for review on top UK blog Mostly Yummy Mummy

One of the perks of writing this blog is being sent all sorts of goodies to review and getting to tell you lot all about them. I must admit that I was intrigued to review* these Nonsuch Shrubs drinking vinegars as I’ve never tried anything like them before but they sounded just my cup of tea (or should that be vinegar?) With so many people rediscovering the culinary – and now drinking – qualities of apple cyder vinegar, I have a feeling that these drinks are set to be The Next Big Thing.

Nonsuch Shrubs are delicious fruit and herb infused non-alcoholic drinking vinegars that were created by Henry Chevallier Guild, an eighth generation Aspall Cyder family member. Created to make up for the lack of sophisticated drinks if you are avoiding alcohol, they’re designed to be enjoyed slowly and sipped like a wine rather than glugged like a soda. They are definitely one for the grown-ups to hide in the back of the fridge, they are far too nice to be wasted on guzzling kids.

These all natural drinks have no added sugar and are blended with sparkling water which gives them a nice gentle but refreshing fizz. Each of the drinks feature a harmony of sweet, sour and savoury elements from fruit and herbs but all have that distinctive bite of apple cyder vinegar. Forget sugary sweet fizzy drinks, these really are something very different and their depth of flavour mean that they have a drinkability remarkably similar to that of wine, craft beer and spirits. Unlike many non-alcoholic drinks they are a perfect accompaniment and pair well with a wide range of foods.

There are three different flavours to enjoy: Sour Cherry & Garden Mint, Blackcurrant & Juniper and Peach & Basil. I honestly couldn’t pick a favourite from the three, in fact I loved just how different each of the drinks were. The flavours were so distinctive yet not at all overpowering. They are perfect for drinking in a wine glass with or without ice. Although in the heat this week I have found them really refreshing as a long drink over as much ice as I could fit into my glass! If you are off the booze for whatever reason, or indeed if you just fancy something a little different these are the perfect grown-up drinks for you.

Nonsuch Shrubs are available now in Planet Organic, Selfridges, Daylesford Organics and boroughwines.co.uk priced at £3.50 per 250ml bottle.

I’d say they are more fruity sweet than sickly sweet if that makes sense? A really nice naturally sweet taste so nice to sip slowly. Well worth a try I promise!
