We were sent some craft soft drinks from Dalston’s* to review. They have just launched three new flavours including the UK’s first ever all natural Cherryade which is crafted with sweet and sour cherries. There is also a Fizzy Elderflower that uses wild harvested British elderflower and a new more crisp and fiery blend of its original Ginger Beer with an added dash of zesty lime.
Forget the fluorescent fizzy pop of your childhood that was full of colourings and sweeteners and quite possibly rocket fuel, these all natural drinks are subtly blended with British spring water and only ever contain real ingredients. Containing less than 110 calories per can, Dalston’s drinks always have up to a third less sugar than other carbonated drinks. All of its drinks come below the sugar tax limit so that has meant that it hasn’t had to mess with its recipes or be forced to use artificial sweeteners, compromise on taste or ramp up prices. With real fruit, nothing artificial and less sugar they are truly lip smackingly delicious.
The company has come a long way since those first days hand-making cola to sell at a London nightclub. Its drinks including a Cola, Lemonade, Orangeade plus the three new flavours are now stocked in stores, cafés, restaurants and pubs across the UK. The process Dalston’s use for bringing new drinks to life is essentially how you would approach developing a new recipe. After trying some cherry juices at one of their suppliers they thought they could make an amazing Cherryade and that was that. I have to say that it is without doubt the best cherryade I have ever tasted. It was crying out to be made into an extra special ice cream float which was given a big thumbs up from my twelve year old! This is definitely one for the grown ups to try too though, not just for the kids!
Dalston’s cans are priced at £1.09 each or £3.99 for packs of four in Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Wholefoods, Ocado and As Nature Intended.
*For the purpose of this review I was kindly provided with press samples of a selection of flavours from Dalston’s drinks but all opinions and ice cream float making skills are my own. I would only ever recommend a product that I hand on heart truly love and these drinks really are the bee’s knees.
